Upper Eyelid Lift – Upper Blepharoplasty
The upper eyelid skin can begin to droop and sometimes rest on the eyelashes with aging. Patients often complain of difficulty applying eye makeup or even changes in vision related to excess eyelid skin. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a simple and fast procedure that removes upper eyelid skin to restore a smooth youthful contour to the upper eyelid. The incision is hidden in the upper eyelid crease and heals so that it is almost imperceptible. Sometimes patients also require removal of a small amount of fat from the inner corner of the upper eyelid.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia or with oral relaxation medication. Because patients are awake, they do not have to worry about the effects of anesthesia and recovery is very fast. Most patients return to their usual activities the day after surgery but with what I call a “purple smokey eye” (bruising of the upper eyelids). Sutures are removed in the clinic one week after surgery and then makeup can be applied to hide any residual bruising.
